Do More With What You Have: A Simple Synod Communications Rhythm

A free guide for synods who don't need more channels, they need a rhythm. A simple weekly and monthly cadence that gets more out of the email, website, and social you already have.

← Back to synod resources

Most synods don’t have a content problem. You have more good stories, events, and updates than you could ever post. What you’re missing isn’t material, it’s a rhythm, a repeatable cadence so the channels you already own work together instead of competing for the same scramble of attention every week.

Your simple rhythm

No new platforms, no bigger team, just a repeatable cadence you can run with what you have. Here's the whole rhythm, start to finish.

The core idea

Create once, use everywhere

The biggest waste in synod communications is treating email, website, and social as three separate jobs. They're not, they're three doors into one story. Create it once in its fullest form, then adapt it down for each channel.

01 Website The full story lives here, permanently.
02 Email A short summary with a link to the full story.
03 Social A single image or quote with a link.

One piece of work, three appearances. That's how a small team sounds like a big one.

Weekly

Your weekly rhythm

Pick one day to be your communications day. Doing the work in one focused block beats scattering it across the week.

Start here Choose a focus What's the single most important thing this week? Pick one, then build everything around it.

Then carry that one focus across your channels:

Update the website first Post the full version: news item, event, or story.
Send one email Point people to it, and keep it short and scannable.
Schedule a few social posts Two or three, drawn from the same content.

One focus, three channels, all reinforcing each other.

Monthly

Your monthly rhythm

Zoom out once a month for the work that's easy to forget:

  1. Look back. What got the most opens, clicks, and engagement? Do more of that.
  2. Look ahead. What's coming in the next 30, 60, 90 days that needs a runway?
  3. Refresh the website. Update anything stale, remove anything expired.
  4. Plan one story of impact. A single congregation, leader, or ministry to highlight.
Why it works

A rhythm beats a burst

When communication happens in unpredictable bursts, your audience never learns when to expect you, so they tune out. A steady rhythm trains people to look for you. Over a few months, "I never see anything from the synod" quietly becomes "I always know what's going on."

You already have the channels. You already have the stories. A rhythm is what turns them into momentum.
